Take Action! Do Something!

Things you can do..............

Lifestyle

Go Vegan - dont contribute to animal cruelty by eating meat, dairy or eggs.(Vegan food doesnt mean peas and lentils! There are vegan flapjack, doughnuts, cakes, marshmallows, sweets, chocolate, readi-meals etc!)

You can buy vegan food from most supermarkets, alot of them have a 'free from' section where there are usually suitable things. Or in cambridge there is Revital (town centre) Arjuana (mill road) and Daily Bread (kings hedges). There is a Veggie/Vegan cafe restuarant in Kings parade called Rainbow.

Buy Cruelty-free - Many companies which make toiletries and houshold products (such as bleach cleaners) test the products or ingredients on animals, by buying these products you are encouraging them to do this and funding animal testing, if you boycott these brands and buy products which are not tested on animals you can help change this. You can get an up-to-date list/booklet of who does and doesnt test on animals from the BUAV or on the internet.

Adopt an animal - from an animal shelter, instead of buying and encouraging people to breed animals for profit. - These shelters are always full of animals: Battersea Dogs Home, Wood Green Animal Shelters, Blue Cross, RSPCA and Retired Greyhound trust.

Care for Companions - Make sure your own animals receive everything they need and lots of attention! - Including correct diet, lots of space, kept clean, receiving vetinerary treatment etc.

Make others aware!

  • Leafleting - in city centres, door 2 door, leave leaflets in public places.
  • Holding information stalls - in city centres, at events.
  • Show ppl videos - e.g behind the mask, earthlings etc.
  • Discuss the issues with friends and family ( inform them )
  • Put up posters or stickers in visible places / public places.
  • Wear Animal Rights slogan tshirts
  • Write letters, send emails and make phone calls.

Protest + Civil Disobedience

  • Go on national / large scale marches and demos.
  • Organise your own small protests with a group of people.
  • High profile stunts - tv, fasting, dress up, sit-ins, lock-ons!

Supporting Others

  • Write letters or send cards of support to AR prisoners.
  • Go to court cases and support the defendants.
  • Attend local meetings to brainstorm ideas.
  • Donate money to campaigns such as SPEAK or SHAC.
  • Buy merchandise from AR groups - hoodies, tshirts, cds, films.
  • Give others a lift to demos (better for the environment too)
  • Raise money for AR organisations/groups - street collections, fundraising events, door to door etc.
  • Sign petitions - there are some good ones on http://petitions.pm.gov.uk especially anti-hunting, ban fur trade, against live-exports and anti-factory farms.
